Schengen-Schmengen

Privacy policy

Last updated 29 September 2026

The short version: Schengen-Schmengen for iPhone and iPad doesn't collect any data. Your trips stay on your device and, if you turn on iCloud sync, in your own iCloud account. There are no accounts, no ads, no analytics, no tracking and no third-party code in the app.

This policy covers the Schengen-Schmengen app for iPhone and iPad (shown on the Home Screen as "Schmengen") and this website. The app is made by Ilya Voloshin, who is responsible for it under data protection law ("I" below).

What the app stores, and where

TripsThe dates and names you enter. They're stored on your device. With Schmengen Pro and iCloud sync on, they're also stored in your own iCloud account through Apple's CloudKit, in a private database only you can read. I can't see them.
SettingsReminder choices, calendar choices and similar preferences, stored on your device.
Widget dataA copy of your trip dates and your Pro status, kept in a shared container on the device so the Home Screen and Lock Screen widgets can show your days.
Calendar feed addressesIf you subscribe to an iCal feed (Pro), its address is stored with your trips, including in your iCloud if sync is on.

Calendar access (Schmengen Pro)

If you turn on calendar integration, the app asks for access to your calendars so it can show all-day and multi-day events on the timeline. Events are read on your device and never uploaded, and the app never changes or deletes your events.

Schengen suggestions. To highlight events that take place in Schengen countries, the app looks up each event's location with Apple Maps. Only the location text or coordinates are sent, to Apple, and the result (the country) is cached on the device. You can turn this off with Suggest Schengen Events in the app's Settings → Calendars. Apple's handling of these requests is covered by Apple's privacy policy.

iCal feeds. If you subscribe to a calendar by address, the app downloads it directly from that address. The server hosting the calendar sees an ordinary request from your device, as it would from any calendar app.

Reminders

Reminders are local notifications scheduled on your device. Nothing about them leaves the device.

Purchases

Schmengen Pro is bought through the App Store. Apple processes the payment; I receive no payment details and no personal information about you. The app checks with the App Store whether you own Schmengen Pro.

Location

The app doesn't ask for or use your location.

Crash reports

The app contains no crash-reporting or analytics code. If you've chosen in iOS to share analytics with app developers, Apple may send me anonymous crash reports, under Apple's terms. You can change this in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Analytics & Improvements.

This website

This site uses no cookies, no analytics and no third-party services; its fonts are served from the site itself. Like any web server, it records requests (including your IP address, the page and your browser's user agent) in server logs, which are used only to keep the site running and secure and are deleted after a short period.

Your rights

Because I don't hold any of your data, there's nothing for me to show you, correct or delete. You're always in control of it on the device:

If you're in the EU, the EEA or the UK, you have rights under the GDPR, including the right to complain to your data protection authority. Questions about privacy are welcome at the address below.

Children

The app is suitable for all ages and collects no information from anyone, children included.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with a new date. A change that affected how your data is handled would also be described in the app's release notes.
